This rhinoceros is one of the pictures in this book by Conrad Lycosthenes. This rare volume can be considered one of the first illustrated books of a bizzarre nature, and contains some of the richest illustrations from the Renaissance. Prodigiourum ac ostentorum chronicon... contains various superstitious and imaginary creatures of medieval times. It seems that this rhinoceros is based on Dürer's. |
